Service & Maintenance
Maintaining automatic Vespas (such as the LX, S, Primavera, Sprint, and GTS models) requires special attention, particularly to the CVT transmission and engine oil. This ensures smooth performance and helps prevent common issues like shuddering during initial acceleration.
A. Special CVT Area Maintenance (Preventing "Shuddering")
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) sector is the most sensitive area on automatic Vespas.
Routine Cleaning: The accumulation of friction dust from the centrifugal clutch pads inside the CVT bowl is the main cause of shuddering during low-speed acceleration.
Roller & Sliding Piece Inspection: Worn or flattened rollers cause acceleration to feel sluggish and inconsistent.
V-Belt Condition: Ensure the V-Belt has no micro-cracks to prevent it from snapping on the road.
B. Electrical System & Battery
Modern automatic Vespas rely on a Fuel Injection system (i-Get / 3V) that depends entirely on a stable battery current.
Ensure the battery voltage is above 12.4V when the engine is off.
Avoid leaving the scooter parked with the ignition switch left ON for too long.
C. Tires and Air Pressure
The steel monocoque body of automatic Vespas requires the correct tire pressure so that the handling does not feel heavy.
Front: 26 - 29 psi
Rear: 29 - 33 psi (adjust accordingly if carrying a passenger)
